Hello, lovely mum to be,
Today, I am going to talk about the dreaded stretch marks that we always worry about when we are pregnant and go out of our way to try every recommendation we hear to try to stop them appearing. My stretch marks do not look very glamorous but who cares I call them my baby bump lines and they remind me how lucky I am to have two beautiful children after losing two to miscarriage.
During pregnancy most women develop stretch marks, they mainly appear on the tummy, hips, legs and breasts. They appear as pink or purple line and they can be quite itchy. After pregnancy, they fade into pale, silvery white wrinkles. Over time they can fade to become almost unnoticeable.
It is not known why stretch marks develop, but it is believed that it is probably down to pregnancy hormone changes and the skin stretching. You are more likely to develop them if you gain a lot of weight like I did with my son, or if you have a big baby.
The good news, though, is there are things you can do that will help. Let me share them with you.
1. Make sure you keep yourself well hydrated by drinking a minimum of 8 glasses of water a day. This helps the skin to stay hydrated and maintain its elasticity.
2. Keep the skin supple by applying moisturiser. There any many types on the market but as you may know I am passionate about doing everything as naturally as possible. We also need to be aware that everything we apply to the skin goes into our bloodstream and across the placenta to our babies and unfortunately there are a lot of products out there that claim to be natural or organic and they aren’t.
I recommend Tropics Natural Skincare Products and as a Tropic Ambassador, I do this because I want to spread the word amongst women and make them aware of how toxic our skincare and makeup regimes are. There is another way of doing things and you still get to look amazing and feel beautiful inside and out.
Here are my top recommendations for stretch marks and your skin in general during pregnancy and beyond.
My absolute top product to help limit stretch marks is Tropics Organic Elixir. It is made with Kiwi Seed oil blended with other organic oils. It also contains Vitamin E and provides the perfect balance of essential amino acids which stimulate collagen production keeping the skin firm and rejuvenated. All you need is a couple of drops added to the Tropic Body Love firming buttercream daily body moisturiser. This is a great product also for anyone with dry skin, rosacea, eczema and psoriasis as it gives a smoother skin with a more even tone as it hydrates the skin giving it a healthy all round radiant complexion. So for me, it is one to keep in the cupboard for the family and your newborn.
As mentioned above the Tropics Body Love Firming – Daily Body Moisturiser is a must have during your pregnancy and after! It is
great for cellulite too, which let’s face it we all have eventually! This body moisturiser cocoons your body in a sensational softness as it nourishes and deeply hydrates your skin. So this will give you the best chance of limiting those pesky stretch marks. Its natural ingredients are shea butter, green algae and vitamin E which help to draw out skin toxins, strengthens the skin cell membrane and promotes firmer more radiant skin.
Finally, if you do have some stretch marks after the birth of your beautiful baby, embrace them they are part of your journey of becoming a mother. But if they really bother you use the Tropic Tamanu Healing Balm. The picture below tells the story but this multipurpose green balm helps to repair scarred, stretched marked and damaged skin and is also great as a natural alternative to nappy rash cream, helping to soothe and heal your little one’s sore bottom naturally. It is also great to help to heal dry skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and even minor cuts and scrapes.
As well as using these amazing natural organic products make sure you are eating plenty of fruit and vegetables and not too many sweet treats so that you limit the amount of weight gain whilst pregnant as it is more likely for the stretch marks to appear.
I hope you have enjoyed my blog and gained some top tips to help reduce your stretch marks naturally.
